CYCLING ITINERARY FROM BEVAGNA TO ASSISI

CYCLING ITINERARY FROM BEVAGNA TO ASSISI

From Bevagna ad Assisi, recently, is been traced the path that continues the cycling route from Spoleto to Bevagna skirting small rivers along little roads with low traffic in the middle of cultivated fields. I want to suggest not only this new route, but also an alternative track among the hills. Suppose to have followed the route from Spoleto to Bevagna up to the crossroad with the the SS316 road. We turn on the right on the main road and then on the left to go to center town of Bevagna through the bridge that oversteps the public washhouse.
Here we can spent how much time we want, because the calm and the atmosphere inside the walls help to recharge the physical batteries. When we are ready, we go out from the walls, leaving from Piazza Silvestri

along via Ponte delle Tavole, we pass the bridge and we make the choice among an easy climb toward the small village of Torre del Colle (1), or a flat road in the valley (2).

1) we go straight on the road in easy ascent and after 1,5 miles reach the beautiful village of Torre del Colle, where we can make a fast visit.

Continuing on, we travel along two switchbacks down the hill and we reach a junction where we turn to the right towards Bettona - Perugia. The road here is very nice and runs skirting a small river on the left
and fields on the right
and with the Subasio mountain on the background. This stretch is 1,7 miles long and ends at the intersection with the road Sp403, where we can meet many cyclists. We turn on the left and, after the bridge, we turn to the right to enter in the village of Cantalupo. We follow the street and at the crossroad we go straight along via dell'Arcatura skirting the left bank of Attone creek.
After 1,4 miles on a gravel road, we take the little climb on the right and we proceed, overtaking the small waterfall, along a segment of cycling route.
We continue and, at the and of straight road, overtaken the small bridge on the left, we turn to the right to take another segment of cycling path. We Arrive to Cannara, we turn on the right along the river and pass the main bridge, then we turn to the left and we go straight up to the San Donato church
where, with caution, we cross the road and we continue straight skirting the right side of the building. Overtaken the houses, looking to the right we can see Assisi on background.
Therefore we turn to the right and, after a sequence of curves, we arrive to the crossroad with sp410. We continue straight along a short stretch of cycling route that skirts the main road, then, before the bridge, we turn to the right, crossing the street, and we take another segment of bike path that ends after about 500 yards.
We continue straight up to the crossroad to Castelnuovo where we can turn to the left to go to visit the little castel on the main square, where we can make a rest. Overtaken the crossroad, the road continue, still straight, up to a curve to the right, then skirts a riding stables and turns to the left. At the crossroad we turn to the left then, after a curve to the right, we pass underneath an underpass. We continue straight up to the crossroad where we turn to the left and we go forward for about 1 mi where we pass under an overpass. With caution we take the main road turning to the left and we continue up to Santa Maria degli Angeli. After a visit at the cathedral, we take viale Patrono d'Italia, therefore the uphill road along viale Giovanna di Savoia, that brings us to Assisi.
2) We turn to the right, before the bridge, and follow the road along the Timia river up to the intersection with Sp403. We turn to the right and then on the left taking the ancient bridge, along a stretch of cycling route,
we have to overtake it,
and take the road to the right. From here we have to follow the road up to the first fork where we go to the left. We follow the signs, placed recently on the route,
and we reach the cycling bridge,
that we overtake therefore, we go toward right. After 0,4 miles on a gravel road, we take the little climb on the right and we proceed, overtaking the small waterfall, along a segment of cycling route. From here the itinerary is the same of the option 1.
